2020 Range Rover Velar vs BMW X5
We’re calling all drivers in Ventura, Camarillo, and Oxnard. We have two top-notch luxury SUVs, and they’re about to go head to head to decide which one’s better.
Our team at Land Rover Ventura is comparing the 2020 Range Rover Velar vs. the BMW X5. We’ll compare their driving dynamics, off-road capabilities, and safety technologies. Keep reading to see which one comes out victorious!
Range Rover Velar vs BMW X5 Engines and Driving Dynamics
The BMW X5 has two great engine options. The standard is a 3.0L TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine. You could also upgrade to the available 4.4L BMW TwinPower Turbo V8. They’re both paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
For drivers who want options, however, the Velar is the way to go. It offers a grand total of four engine options. The standard is a 2.0L i4 turbocharged engine. You can boost the performance of the Range Rover Velar by equipping it with one of the two 3.0L supercharged gas engines. Or, for the most power, opt for the available 5.0L V8 supercharged engine with an impressive 550 HP. They’re all paired with an 8-speed transmission.
When it comes to driving performance, both these SUVs have a Dynamic Stability Control system. These systems monitor the vehicle’s behavior and will intervene if the car’s not responding to the driver inputs. The Range Rover Velar, however, also has Torque Vectoring by Braking. It gives the driver better, more responsive cornering by balancing the distribution of engine torque among all four wheels.
Range Rover Velar vs BMW X5 Off-Road Capabilities
It goes without saying that any SUV needs to have great off-roading capabilities. While both these vehicles can master any terrain, one clearly stands above the other.
Every Velar trim is equipped with All Wheel Drive with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics. It continually optimizes the engine and torque distribution between the front and rear wheels. This gives the SUV improved traction in any road condition and on all terrain types.
The Range Rover Velar comes standard with the Terrain Response® system as well. It enables you to select a drive mode to match the type of terrain you’re taking on. It will optimize the engine, center differential, and chassis system to give you superior control. Upgrade to the available Terrain Response® 2, and you’ll have a system that will monitor the conditions for you. Then, it will automatically select the most suitable terrain setting.
The BMW X5 also has a standard xDrive all-wheel drive system. However, it doesn’t offer the standard off-roading ability of the Velar.
Range Rover Velar vs BMW X5 Safety Features
Both these SUVs have great safety and driver-assistive technologies. The BMW X5 offers the available Active Driving Assistant. This package includes Daytime Pedestrian Protection, Frontal Collision Warning with City Collision Mitigation, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
This package also includes Lane Departure Warning that will warn you if your vehicle begins drifting out of a detected lane.
The Range Rover Velar also comes with a variety of standard safety technologies. These include:
- Emergency Braking
- Lane Keep Assist
- Front and Rear Parking Aid
- Rear Camera
The Driver Assist Package is available as well and will add seven more driver-assistive technologies to your Velar. Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Assist, and Park Assist are just a few of them.
With more safety options, the Velar is sure to keep you protected while out on the road.
