2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport Review
When you’re driven by the fire of adventure, you need an SUV that matches your joie de vivre. The Discovery Sport may be just that SUV, as you’ll find out in this 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport review.
The team at Land Rover Ventura is dedicated to helping our customers find the best car for them, so we’re going to explore some of our favorite features this SUV has to offer for their outings in the Ventura, Oxnard, and Camarillo areas.
Discovery Sport Design
The Land Rover Discovery Sport is designed to be noticed, with its distinct clamshell hood, 2-bar grille, and hexagonal mesh.
Then, when you open the doors, you’ll find the inside is as versatile as the outside is compelling. The driver’s seat features a Command Driving Position that positions the driver up tall, giving them a higher vantage point over other traffic.
The interior seats five comfortably, with an available 5+2 configuration that adds two third-row seats. These seats can be stored flat into the floor when not in use, giving you access to 34.6 cubic feet of cargo space.
If the cargo area isn’t in use, the second-row seats can slide back to give passengers an extra 6.3 inches of leg room. On the other hand, if more cargo space is needed, fold down all rear seats to free up a grand total of 60 cubic feet of cargo space.
Land Rover Discovery Sport Capability
Beneath its refined exterior and versatile interior, the 2018 Discovery Sport has a highly capable engine hard at work. Drivers can choose between two 2.0L turbocharged Ingenium engines. One produces 237 horsepower and 251 lb-ft of torque and offers optimized efficiency, responsiveness, and drivability.
For an extra boost, drivers can also upgrade to the available high-performance engine that produces 286 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.
Both engines allow you to reach a maximum towing capacity of 4,409 pounds, when properly equipped, and include a lightweight 9-speed automatic transmission with a higher top gear that improves fuel economy by reducing RPMs when cruising at sustained highway speeds.
Advanced Handling Technology
Drivers who want to be equipped for anything that may come their way will like the handling technology available in the 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport.
This is technology like the standard Terrain Response® system that provides a more confident driving experience by allowing you to adapt to your driving conditions. Drivers can choose between four different settings. When they do, the SUV will adjust the engine, transmission, differentials, and chassis systems to maximize comfort and traction. Standard settings are:
- General Driving
- Grass, Gravel, Snow
- Sand
- Mud & Ruts
A fifth setting called Adaptive Dynamics is also available, and delivers tight body control, flatter handling, and sharp responses for a finely-tuned driving experience.
